Theme Jesus once was a little child a little child like me
The purpose of the activity was to help children feel closer to the Savior, to understand that He too was a child just like them. That He lived and that He lives. To support this year's primary theme: I Know My Savior Lives
Invitations:
bracelets: We printed out the following invitations and made strips then tapes them on the children's wrists as they were released from primary.
bookmarks: personalized bookmarks with the children's names in Hebrew as well as the origin and meaning of their name and the scriptures Luke 2:40 and Luke 2:52 with their names in parenthesis to show how as a child they can try to be like Jesus. Picture of them at the top. The side with all the children's information said A Little Child Like Me The other side was about Jesus and said Jesus Once Was A Little Child Jesus written in Hebrew Greek and English along with meaning Scripture Numbers 24:17 Written in Hebrew A scripture Christ would have studied as a boy that is about him. Luke 2:52 in Greek

Feast Upon My Word
Nazareth's #1 Diner
The menu was made from dowels cut in half with drawing paper glued on. The drawing paper had a rough texture so I thought it would look more aged. ;) We began the diner by eating a middle eastern pastry that is eaten by Jews, Muslims and Christians. Then the children ordered by scripture from the menus. There were three items in each row and they chose one item per row. We sat on the floor on a pretty woven blanket as was done in Christ's time and the food was set up on the table. Each child got a sticky note for their order so the note was put by their items so they could find their place. As we sat we talked about things Christ may have eaten, how they may have sat on the floor, where he would have slept and the other questions we had discussed in primary. We also looked at the chapters in Jesus the Christ about Christ's childhood. We looked at both of the pictures and talked a bit about Jesus's childhood. Then the kids got their scripture mystery foods. They seemed to enjoy themselves and were engaged and learning. It was really great. :)
One of our primary teacher's helped me by getting the food for the kids. We had matching aprons & headbands. Our name tags read Mary and Martha. ;)
Recipes
Challah follow the link to yummy Jewish Sabbath day bread. Maybe Jesus ate something like this? The interesting thing is that it is best the second day. I wonder if it was made the day before the Sabbath?
Jewish Apple Cake The next time I make this I'll add more apples. Watch it near the end that it doesn't burn. Mine needed less time and got a little browner than I would have liked.
