The Lord in his infinite wisdom made babies washable. :)
I don't usually bother with bibs because I have a diaper only feeding policy. After baby has sufficiently slathered them self with food just pick them up take them to the bath and rinse them off. I have a nice towel by the tub ready for drying my little chubba wubba.
Less laundry from bibs/clothes/washcloths
Less worries from messiness
I also recommend a dog to clean the floor. :) This is the official jurisdiction of our pug.
Dave Barry has a theory that babies do not actually eat with their mouths. They absorb food through their skin. He feels it is best to put food all over a baby's face.
