This Special Day
Thank you for sharing this special day
I'm sorry I had to stay away
But I may be a little longer
'Cos I have to grow much stronger.
Thank you for your love and wishes
I'd like to shower you with kisses.
Love from Baby.

With Tiny Hands
With tiny hands and tiny feet
I hope that very soon we'll meet
I hope that you will stay a while
And make my mommy (and daddy) smile.
And although I can't be there today
There's something that I'd like to say,
Thank you for your gifts and wishes
And please help mommy with the dishes.
Love from Baby.

Baby's message
Thank you all for stopping by
But as I am a little shy
I thought today I'd stay away
Mommy said that its ok.
Friendship is so hard to measure
But something mommy (and daddy) will treasure
I hope to see you very soon
Because in here there ain't much room.
Love from Baby.

A Child's Angel
Once upon a time there was a child ready to be born. So one day he asked God: "They tell me you are sending me to earth soon, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"
"Among the many angels, I chose one for you. She will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
"But tell me, here in Heaven, I don't do anything else but sing and smile, that's enough for me to be happy."
"Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every day. And you will feel your angel's love and be happy."
"And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me, if I don't know the language that men talk?"
"Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"
"Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."
"I've heard that on earth there are bad men. Who will protect me?"
"Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."
"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."
"Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way for you to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you."
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from earth could already be heard, and the child in a hurry asked softly: "Oh God, if I am about to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."
"Your angel's name is of no importance, you will call your angel: Mommy"

For hostesses who live in the same town as the mom-to-be: The hostess could send invitations out to all of your guests. In the invitations, ask them to send their gift to the hostess and to play a game. Games could be: who will baby look like, make a wish for the mom in while in labor, and baby stats! Once the party box is filled with the gifts and game answers, the hostess wraps it all up and sends it to the mom-to-be. A big party box! How much fun!
Throw a Long-Distance Shower

"I had a long distance shower for my sister -- I asked everyone to come over and bring their unwrapped gifts and some wrapping paper. We all showed off the gifts we bought, then set up a video camera to tape everything. We wrapped presents while enjoying refreshments, favors, everything that you usually have at a shower (except the honoree.) Then we boxed all the gifts up and sent them to my sister, along with the video and instructions to open the gifts while watching the video. It was a lot of fun for everyone."

"My sister-in-law lives far away from us and is pregnant with her fourth baby. None of us can be there to give her a shower (which I think every pregnant woman deserves!) so I decided to send her a "Baby Shower in a Box." In a large shipping box I will put gifts from all the family members who are here (wrapped of course), a large decorated cookie (this will be the cake) and a list of games. I'll seal each game answer in an envelope to be revealed after the game is played and include prizes for each winner. The games are guess how many jelly beans are in the baby bottle and guess the price of assorted baby items (inspired by the Price Is Right). My father-in-law has written a poem about 'Baby Shower in a Box.' And last, but not least, I will add some helium balloons, so hopefully when the box is opened the balloons will float up and out, with the poem attached."

Pins and Rice:
A fun and surprisingly difficult game to play! Fill a small bowl 3/4 full with dry rice. Add small safety pins to the mix. Blindfold each guest and give them the chance to remove as many safety pins as possible in one minute. The guest who finds the most pins wins the game. It is actually pretty hard to do since the pins and the rice feel the same. Make sure to return all the pins into the bowl before each guest starts. Then everyone gets a fair chance at winning!
Preparation: small bowl, small safety pins, blindfold, paper and pen to record guest results, watch.
Baby Mad Libs:
Create a story about the mom and her pregnancy or labor/delivery. After it is written, go back in and take out some key words (around 4-5 words, depending on the length of your story) and replace with a blank space. Make note of the word you removed and what it represented (adjective, adverb, noun, verb, number, emotion, etc..). During the game, give guests a piece of paper and ask them to write down the type of words you removed. So, if you had removed an adverb, then the guests would fill in an adverb like "slowly". After guests have completed all of the words, hand them another paper with the story and have them fill in the blank spaces with their words. Be sure that you number each word assigned to the blank spaces. You'll be surprised at how funny their stories will be!
Preparation: create story with blanks and make copies, number a paper with the key terms (adj, adv, noun,) and make copies, pens.
Create Baby's Name:
Write out the mom's first name and the dad's first name on a piece of paper. Make copies for each guest. While you time them for about three minutes, ask players to find names for the baby out of the letters in the parent's names.
· "Belly Bulge" - To make the mother-to-be feel at home, ask the guests to come "pregnant," wearing maternity smocks stuffed with pillows. Then at game time, have the guests replace the pillows with their gifts. Mom-to-be must feel each "belly" and guess the gift underneath.
Write down things people say while opening presents that the mom-to-be may say during labor/conception
Custom Made Puzzle
Definitely start with this one! As your guests walk in the door, pass out a puzzle based on the mother-to-be, your party theme, or the guests. They will have a fun puzzle to solve that gets them into the spirit of your party, and they will be entertained while you wait for everyone to arrive!
Help Out the Mom-to-Be
As guests arrive have them address a Thank You card envelope. Once everyone has filled out the envelopes; draw one from the basket and the addressee wins a door prize. ? This is fun but also helps out the Mom-to-Be a lot!
Real-Life Mom
String a clothesline across the room or have two people hold up the clothesline. Let two guests go at a time. Give the two guests a baby doll, cordless telephone, and a basket of baby clothes with clothes pins. Give a time limit of 1 minute where the two guests must try to hang as many clothes on the clothesline as they can while holding the baby and talking on the phone. Repeat as many times as necessary to let all the guests participate.
One-handed Diaper change
Pair up guests in twos. Give each pair a baby doll and a diaper. The pairs must put the diaper on the baby doll but each person can only use one hand. The fastest pair wins!
True to Life:
This is a game of distractions, much like real life. The object is to dress a baby doll while guests shout out distractions. Get a baby doll that is close to the size of a baby. Get some clothes that will fit, you can make it as challenging as you'd like. Make a list of distractions such as food burning on the stove, doorbell ringing, phone call, dog throwing up, etc... Either have your guests pick one distraction and read it out loud or have the hostess read each distraction. Get a few volunteers to "dress the baby" and time them for a few minutes. While they are trying to dress the baby, have them check on the distraction. See who gets their baby dressed the fastest. And they are disqualified if they leave the baby by herself!
Preparations: baby doll, baby clothing, watch, list of distractions

Once upon a time, there was a woman named Mel . She was very, very, very pregnant. She started having contractions. So, she decided to get everything ready to go to the A to have her B . When she tried to get in touch with her husband, he was busy C D . You got so mad at him that you screamed E F get over here and take me to G and get this H out of me! NOW! So, he jumped up and ran over and cranked up the I J . It was the most ugliest color of K you had ever seen. So, on the way to L , he preceeded to run over the M N and the O . It made you so P , that you Q all over him. After getting R speeding tickets, you make it to the hospital. The DR. Checks you in and you end up having a brand new S ! Congratulations!

Include the Dads-to-Be

"One way to include the Dad in the baby shower for his wife is to give him a hospital gift bag, including change for vending machines and the phone, a book, snacks, clean socks and even some Advil for that headache that is sure to come with so much to do. Another idea is to have a cookout baby shower and invite couples. My friends and I had a cookout shower with an Old West theme. The dads really enjoyed this one. The honorary couple was new to our area and it gave the everyone a chance to get to know each other."

Create a labor bead necklace:
Ask guests to write out one wish for the mom-to-be while she is in labor and one wish for the baby at the time of the birth. After the party, string beads together to form a necklace. Each bead should represent one wish. Tip: use pink beads to represent the labor wishes and blue beads to represent the wishes for baby at birth. (Any color bead will work)
So, if you have 15 guests who participated in this activity, you should have 30 beads on the necklace. Write out the wishes in a journal or notebook for a nice keepsake. Present it to the mom-to-be. Let her know that the meaning behind this activity is that she should pack the necklace in her labor bag and pull it out when labor begins. The necklace will let her know that everyone is thinking of her and the baby at that special time. Having the necklace can be a source of positive energy and strength for her in the time she needs it most! A great activity for the mom-to-be who lives far from family and friends.
*An alternative to this activity is to have each guest bring a bead, go around the room and have each guest give their "wish" or "thought of strength" for the mom and then add their bead to the necklace.
A Blessingway is an ancient Navajo ceremony to celebrate a woman's transition into motherhood. The Navajo have a saying, "whatever happens here on Earth must first be dreamed",
Next, we wove a cord bracelet for us each to wear until Mo's baby was born. After the birth, we were free to cut off the bracelet; in the meantime, it was a constant reminder on our wrists of Mo's upcoming journey.
My favourite part of the afternoon was when I asked everyone to describe their connection with Mo - how they met her, what drew them to her, why she was important to them. When else do we have opportunity for close friends to share openly about their feelings?
This was a very touching moment, and we were all weeping (and sobbing!) by the end of it. In conclusion, before the gifts and feasting, I read a poem, which is traditionally used as concluding words:
An Ode to Faith
-by Patrick Overter
When you have come to the edge
Of all the light you know,
Into the darkness of the unknown,
Faith is knowing that
One of two things will happen,
There will be something solid to stand on,
Or you will be taught how to fly.
Candle lighting: give candles to guests as they arrive at the party and ask them to light a candle for the mom-to-be and place it in the room. Another candle lighting that you can do is to give candles to each guest as they leave. When the mom goes into labor, contact each guest and ask them to light their candles while the mom labors. This is to send support, strenght and positive thoughts toward the mother.

Birthday candle wishes:
Ask each guest to write out a wish for the baby. After the party, write out the wishes onto small pieces of paper and wrap each one around a candle. Place the candles in a pretty bag and present it to the mom-to-be.
The meaning behind this activity is that one candle be used on the child's birthday cake each year. So, if you have twenty guests to the party, the baby can have one wish each year on his/her birthday cake up to the age of twenty!
