Don't waste your life on clutter gifts or wrapping paper trash? Take the day or a few hours off and hang out with those you love instead of spending time earning money to be thrown away or trade your time for something worth your time.
Here's some ideas...

Adventures are a favorite clutter free gift.
Take me out to the ball game, take me out to a show, lets go to the zoo or somewhere we've never gone before. Time is the best gift of all.
classes/learning adventures often this is something parents cut in their budget so you can help them out. :) community center - ballet, soccer, etc. memberships to the zoo, science center, museum etc
Ask if they need any art/school supplies.
craft store gift certificates
home improvement store gift certificates - we all have a project
book store gift certificate with a few recommended favorites
Netflix subscription
I've found that homemade coupons never work. I've tried them many times. Instead of doing coupons I just do the stuff on the coupons.
Communication is key. Talk about what you need, set realistic expectations for giving, celebrating etc. Be open to wish lists, gift exchanges etc. For some folks Christmas is especially hard. If you have family that is out of work be sensitive to their requests. It is a very challenging time and sensitivity is much appreciated. It is the perfect time to focus on the things that are truly gifts, family, friends, health and faith.
Be Nancy Drew and listen for clues of things they NEED.
SERVICE I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do service for other people with the people I love as a Christmas gift. I think that would be the best of all!
Consider making cloth gift bags this year - when you throw away all that gift wrap you're really throwing away your time. Time you spent at work or time you will spend at work if you bought on credit. Hard fact but true.
