Here's a tip for packing the family. Pack by days instead of by people. Pack a days worth of clothes for each person in a plastic grocery bag then when it is time to check in or to get clothes for the next day you just grab a bag. I use a different color bag for Sunday clothes or special day clothes and I pack the toothbrushes and PJs in my backpack so if I feel like grabbing tomorrows clothes I can or I can grab them the next day but I have all the essentials for a good nights rest after travel in my backpack. I also load up on library books, books/stories on tape, children's music and we have a movie treat for the last leg of the trip if the kids have behaved. We bring our journals for doodling as well. We made a travel journal to have folks write in with questions in it for them to answer. We're also doing a wildflower hunt so instead of getting beat for every slug bug we're looking for pretty flowers and every once and a while we're going to stop and pick some to press. Good luck with your travels.
