Girls of Many Lands

We just finished a book called Leyla that is part of the Girls of Many Lands series by American Girls. It was a well written, interesting book that I would recommend for kids 8 and older. It provided some interesting cultural and historical knowledge as well as a compelling story. The book was more complex than most American Girl books. The main character goes through significant trials. We really enjoyed it. It looks like the authors were chosen because of her knowledge and skill. The author of Leyla is from Turkey and is a successful adult fiction novelist. She has a deep knowledge of the Ottoman Tulip King's Harem and that really comes through in the book. It was an interesting read and we look forward to reading other books in the series.
