My favorites from the above link...
We made the bee hives using an inverted muffin tin so we didn't waste aluminum foil. ;)
Beehive Cinnamon Rolls - My daughter helped me make little beehive cinnamon rolls. We just bought the refrigerated ones at the grocery store. We bought the orange ones so that the frosting would be more honey colored. Then she made little balls of aluminum foil... with a flat side.. then unrolled the cinnamon rolls and then re-rolled them over the ball to form little beehives.. then removed the foil after they were cooked.. I froze them and then Saturday night I warmed the icing in the microwave and then drizzled over the top of the hives to look like honey. I looked for the little chenille bees to stick in them but couldn't find them here and so I just printed out a little clip art bee and glued some little googly eyes on it and hot glued a toothpick to the back and stuck the bee in the hive. Pattern: Click here for pattern

Preparation: On a window (during daylight) or on a light box, using a pencil, trace the pattern onto a 5" X 10.5" piece of fabric. (When tracing the words, you do not need to add the "dots" on the ends of the letters). Draw over the words ONLY with a black marker (test the marker on a piece of scrap fabric). You do not need to use the marker over the dots that are bordering the words, they are there as a guide for sewing.

Optional: Add a piece of warm and natural fabric to the back. Using safety pins, pin your piece of fabric to a patterned piece of fabric and warm and natural (if necessary). Using three strands of DMC thread for the hand work, sew through the two dots that are close together, and the single dot is for a bead; sewing the border continuously through the two dots and the "bead" dot.

The beehive and bees are from Michaels Arts & Crafts (sold individually). Glue the beehive and bees (fast drying Alene's glue works well). Sew small flower buttons, and using a green marker draw the flower stems (test marker on scrap fabric). Tear two small pieces for the tabs, to save time they were attached using safety pins.

Note: All the fabric was torn to give the frayed look.

Activity: While they were doing the handiwork, I had the talk given by President Hinckley playing.

Our Living Prophet

President Hinckley is very dear.
We listen to him every year.
He and Heavenly Father are very near.
They tell us what we need to hear.

He gave us the family proclamation,
A statement to the world and nation,
A plan that began at the time of creation,
To teach families of their obligations.

In the Conference Center you will see
A beautiful pulpit that used to be
An old black walnut tree,
Planted by President Hinckley.

He wrote a book called Way to Be!
To teach us about his B’s.
The things he wrote help you and me
To live with our family eternally.

He teaches us the right way
And reminds us to always pray.
I love to listen to what he’ll say.
I love the prophet in every way.

Read "The Bee Tree" by Patricia Polacco

A little girl, tired of reading, wants to go outside and play. Her grandfather uses the opportunity to teach his granddaughter the importance of reading by taking her on a hunt for a bee tree.

The little girl learns that just as there is sweetness in honey, there is sweetness inside a book too. Her grandfather says, "Adventure, knowledge, and wisdom don't come easily. You have to pursue them. Just like we ran after the bees to find their tree, so you must also chase these things through the pages of a book!

The Bible has many verses about the advantages of gaining wisdom and knowledge. You can use this book to open a discussion about the important of studying God's Word and relate it to the sweetness of honey.

"Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off." Proverbs 24:14

"More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." Ps. 19:10

I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Won't my mommy be so proud of me,
(Cup hands together as if holding bee)

I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee,
Ouch! It stung me!
(Shake hands as if just stung)

I'm squishing up the baby bumblebee,
Won't my mommy be so proud of me,
('Squish' bee between palms of hands)

I'm squishing up a baby bumblebee,
Ooh! It's yucky!
(Open up hands to look at 'mess')

I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee,
Won't my mommy be so proud of me,
(Wipe hands off on shirt)

I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee,
Now my mommy won't be mad at me!

Oh, I wish I was a bouncy blue balloon.
Oh, I'd float into the air, then I'd *POP* without a care.
Oh, I wish I was a bouncy blue balloon.

Crafts
Bumble Bee rattle with letter B wings
Put some beans in a yellow balloon. Blow it up then use a black permanent marker to make stripes around the B. Have the kids make wings for the bee. Using the marker write a block letter B on wax paper and have the kids cut it out and tape it on for wings. You can embellish the wings with crayon coloring or with glitter and crayons shavings melted between 2 bees.

My hubby bought the wring balloons so we made bugs instead ;)
