Stopping for Daddy

If you should want a hug, I’ll stop and hug you.
If you should want some help, I’ll stop and help.
And if you see me doing something naughty,
Just tell me and I’ll stop without a yelp.

If you should need a song, I’ll stop and sing one.
If you should need a kiss, that’s what you’ll get.
I’ll gladly stop whatever I am doing
To help the greatest dad I’ve ever met.

If you should need a snack, I’ll stop and fix one.
A listening ear? I’ll stop and give you two.
You’re always there for me, and, dearest Daddy,
I plan on always being there for you.

So if you ever need my full attention,
Hold up this little sign, and there I’ll be.
I’ll always stop for you because I love you—
You taught me how by always loving me.

A good articles for dad's that don't fit the mold - dad's that don't go to church etc

REFRESHMENTS:
Prepare ahead of time:
*Using a family picture, cut it up into puzzle pieces,
carefully cutting around and removing the piece of
Dad. (Save!). Place remaining pieces in a baggie.
Use for intro.
*Make Father's Day "Surprise" Cake...based on idea
from Friend magazine...I don't have the exact
reference. Bake a cake, and insert hidden messages to
Dad from the family (wrapped in foil)...we love you
because you play with us, etc.

Intro: Using family puzzle baggie (see above), ask
the children to put the puzzle together. Ask them who
is missing, and explain that the family just isn't
right without Dad in the picture. Give the children
the piece of Dad to complete the family photo.

Next, tell them that since Dad is such an important
part of our family puzzle, you have a puzzle just for
him. From the Friend Magazine, there is a
poem/activity by Mary Jane Davis entitled
"Father"...(I don't have the exact reference). Have
the children help put up the pieces to the puzzle.

Fathers have many responsibilities!! Can you think of
some of the responsibilities Dad has? (Responses may
include everything from mowing the lawn to holding the
priesthood.)

The Proclamation on the Family also tells us about
some of the responsibilities the Lord has taught us
that dads hold. (Refer to Proclamation...discuss.)

Activity: Using two "Getting to Know Dad" sheets with
questions such as "Where did Dad grow up?" "How did
Dad propose to Mom?", etc., have your husband fill one
out privately as the answer sheet, then ask the
children the questions. You can try it, too, to see
who knows Dad the best!
