Holidays or Hollerdays?

Would you describe your holidays as hollerdays? Do you feel far from the true spirit of Christmas? This year will be different. Prayerfully prioritize and reduce your holiday stress before it begins.

The formatting didn't work with my spelling out Hollerdays - Holidays sorry if that is lost in translation. :)

H – Haves
H – Humility
Micah 6:8
Set realistic limits and write down purchases. Limit number of gifts on wish lists.
Consider gifts of time: babysitting, service, chores, adventures, teaching or homemade items.

O – Over doing it
O – Observe the Sabbath
Genesis 2: 2
The Lord rested and so should you! Prioritize, limit obligations and keep the Sabbath holy.

L – LOUD
L – Love
Isaiah 14:7
Surround yourself with serenity. Play hymns, spiritual holiday music, listen to the scriptures or conference in your car or at home. Enjoy the beautiful quiet spiritual moments of the season. Speak loving words to others and use a pleasing tone. Yell only if the house is on fire.

L - Late
I - In advance
D&C 88:119
Presents, cards, neighbor treats, plan in advance, order on-line to avoid in-line. Write down your plan in a calendar/notebook. A Holiday Organization Notebook is extremely helpful. There are pages and instructions available at organizedhome.com

E – Eating Extra
D – Dainty Delights
D&C 89:18
Smaller samples are less fat and calories and reduce guilt.

R – Road Rage

Imagine you’re walking together. Would you cut someone off you were walking next to?

D – Decorating Dilemma
Y – Youth
1 Peter 3:4
If you can feel the spirit as you decorate your doing it right. Allow youth to help imperfectly with the holidays. Create memories and share the true spirit with them.

A – All about me
S – service
Galatians 6:2
Many are lonely, grieving or without. Many are waiting for their temple work to be done. Count your blessings then allow others to count on you.

Y – Yesterday
Luke 17:4
The holidays of yesterday are not today. Let go of past wrongs and forgive. Have realistic expectations for the holidays. Take joy in the simple things.

What fills you with love, joy and the spirit during the holidays? Focus on those activities.
If you love caroling and haven’t gone in 10 years, go caroling.
Change the Hollerdays into Holidays: prayerfully prioritize, develop your relationship with the spirit and feel the greatest gift of any season, the love of Christ.
