Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving prayer by Bill Harley
Now in thanks we bow our heads
With grateful words before we're fed
Turkey for all, except Aunt Marian
Since she's a vegetarian.
My brother sits here right beside me
My stomach rumbling deep inside me
Aunts and uncles, gramps and grans
With settled hearts and folded hands
My dog is here and he prays too
"Drop that turkey, oh please do"
And I say thanks, no ifs or buts
Though all those here still drive me nuts.

Thanksgiving dinner's sad and thankless
Christmas dinner's dark and blue
When you stop and try to see it
From the turkey's point of view.

Sunday dinner isn't sunny
Easter feasts are just bad luck
When you see it from the viewpoint
Of a chicken or a duck.

Oh how I once loved tuna salad
Pork and lobsters, lamb chops too
'Til I stopped and looked at dinner
From the dinner's point of view.
