Educational Philosophy

I wrote this when I decided to homeschool.

Study Tools – Support groups, co-ops, curriculum, community events/classes, library books and events and internet resources

Chronological teaching of History -time line

Unit studies – teaching under theme umbrella, increase retention through repetition of subject matter in multiple disciplines such as art, music, math science language arts etc. reiterates the inter-connectivity of materials. Active Hands on learning with multiple age groups. Work from books - less from texts.

Time spent on both adult centered and child centered learning. Life long learning by example.

Give children knowledge base from which they can serve, explore and engage within the world community. As parents we guide their knowledge using our priorities for growth while valuing unique needs.

Flexibility to follow interests and needs. Study in depth.

Promote intrinsic motivation of learning.

Social interactions through sports, performance, classes and social gatherings. Our homeschool will provide a realistic social atmosphere preparing for an adult social environment.

Goals

Lifelong learner, actively inquisitive and creative and understands how to acquire new information and hopefully enjoys the pursuit of knowledge.

Facilitate and provide opportunities that aid in becoming a well-rounded individual who is useful to themselves, their family, community etc. Acquire tools to follow dreams to make them reality. Prepare for self reliance.

Individual thinker

Thoughtful

Strengthen Family through interaction & time together.

Knowledge - Understanding – Wisdom
