I spoke about the Holy Ghost at a very special baptism recently and would like to share a bit of that talk with you.
First we are baptized by immersion then by fire through the Holy Ghost. Baptism by fire serves 2 purposes, first, to cleanse, next to magnify or alter. Water cleanses but fire purifies. When you are baptized by fire you are spotless and pure, your good feelings and faith are magnified.
When a candle is lit it can never return to what it once was. When you receive the Holy Ghost you are forever changed. The candle always holds the mark where it burned just as the Lord's indelible mark is upon you after you receive the Holy Ghost. The flame may flicker or extinguish if ignored but it can return.
One candle can light a dark room.
Hundreds of candles can be lit from a single flame. The light of that candle will never diminish from being shared.
156 years ago, in Denmark, a couple was Baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. "They went to the place of Baptism and after cutting away the ice which was 2 feet deep. Elder Sorenson led mother to the water and baptized her after which he baptized father. They baptized mother first thinking she might get scared and back down. They did not know her. She never did back down as subsequent history proves most conclusively. The doctrines of the gospek had sunk deeply into the hearts of my parents. This is the story of (your) great-great-great-great-great grandmother. Have courage just like your grandmother. Follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit and never back down in doing right.
